DESCRIPTION:We’re participating in Ohio Open Doors on Sunday\, September 13th at the Orange Johnson House and the Old Rectory! Ohio Open Doors is a statewide event organized by the Ohio History Connection in which local sponsors are opening their historic buildings and landmarks to the public for special tours and programs.   \nIn Worthington\, the following sites will be open on Sunday\, September 13th with complimentary admission: \n\nThe Orange Johnson House\, 956 High Street\n\nVisit the Orange Johnson House museum for a glimpse into central Ohio’s early pioneer life. The house is furnished with period artifacts and guests can tour in an open house format. \n\n\nThe Old Rectory\, 50 West New England Avenue\, 2nd floor\n\nEnjoy a behind-the-scenes open house with seldom seen items from the collection on exhibit\, including items from the lace collection\, as well as collections storage areas.\n\n\n The American Legion\, 700 Morning Street\n\nPost 239 of the American Legion was organized in Worthington shortly after the end of World War I in 1919. For veterans\, it is a place to gather in the camaraderie of shared experience. Visit the recently renovated post\, where historical photographs and documents relating to members will be on display. \n\n\nHigh Road Gallery\, 12 East Stafford Street\n\nAn artist collective housed in an 1818 building\, the Buttles-Pinney-Brown house\, constructed by local brickmason Arora Buttles. Enjoy the architecture as well as the current gallery exhibition and work of the resident artists.\n\n\nSharon Memorial Hall\, 137 East Dublin-Granville Road\n\nFirst built as the Wright residence in 1861\, this property came under the care of the Trustees of the Sharon Township Memorial in 1945\, retaining many early features. Veteran memorabilia is on display. \n\n\nSt. John’s Episcopal Church & Cemetery\, 700 High Street\n\nFounded in 1804 by many of Worthington’s founders\, St. John’s\, its churchyard\, and Township Hall were added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1980. Explore 222 years of parish history\, tour the churchyard and community cemetery\, visit the nave where services have been held since 1831\, and discover the historic ties between St. John’s and Worthington. \n\n\nOld Worthington Library\, 820 N High Street\n\nGet a rare behind-the-scenes look at how books and other items make it to the shelves at Old Worthington Library. DESCRIPTION:Antique Sale on the southeast Village Green concurrent with the Chamber of Commerce’s Market Day event \nSaturday\, October 3rd\, 9 am-4 pm \nThe Society has been hosting sales on the Green since the 1950s! The Shop at the Old Rectory will set up a booth with antiques on the Green alongside returning and new vendors from around the area. The Worthington Chamber of Commerce’s Market Day event on High Street will also return with craft vendors along High Street. Come out and shop more than 130 exhibitors with handmade arts and crafts\, antiques and family fun. Make it a day and visit your favorite downtown restaurant or check out one of the food vendors. A free shuttle service will be operated from 7:00 am to 5:30 pm\, traveling from the 6700 N. DESCRIPTION:Family Ghost Tour\nSaturday\, October 17th\nTours begin every 15 minutes\, beginning at 3 pm through 3:45 pm \nSimilar to our traditional Historic Ghost Tour\, this family-friendly experience is student-led by Beatrix Robinson and will feature local student actors and guides. Designed for guests ages 8 and older\, this tour offers an engaging introduction to local history. Admission is free\, but registration is required. On this guided walk through Worthington’s Historic District\, guests will encounter ghosts of past residents who return to share the stories and history of the community they once called home. \nThe tour features four stops and includes approximately 0.5 miles of walking. Guests should plan to be on their feet for 45 to 60 minutes. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended. DESCRIPTION:General Meeting & Program \nHistory Unveiled: Two New Markers\, Two Enduring Legacies \nExploring the Histories of the Turk-Gilkey House and Flint Ridge Terrace \nThursday\, Nov. 5th\, 7-8:30 pm \nThe Griswold Center\, 777 High Street \nFree\, Open to the Public \nDiscover the stories behind Worthington’s two newest Ohio Historical Markers. One marker\, at Flint Ridge Terrace\, will be dedicated on October 25th.  The Society also just learned that a second marker at the Turk-Gilkey House has been accepted into the program to be erected in the fall of 2027.  Join Worthington Historical Society Executive Director Kate LaLonde for an exploration of the history behind both sites.   \nThe program will look at the Turk-Gilkey House at 108 West New England\, where Henry and Dolly Turk became among the earliest known African American homeowners in Worthington.  Hear about the Turk family and how we have learned about their story. \nThe program will also examine the history of Flint Ridge Terrace\, the neighborhood developed by Robert and Frances Johnson that expanded homeownership opportunities for African American families in the Worthington area during the 1950s and 1960s. Speakers will include members of the original Flint Ridge Terrace families\, who will share firsthand memories of growing up in the neighborhood and its lasting impact on their lives.  This marker was part of the 2026 special call for “Ohio Originals: Highlighting Points of Pride and Unity” as part of the America 250 celebration. \nTogether\, these stories reveal how ordinary people shaped extraordinary chapters in Worthington’s history. \nThere will be a short business meeting before the program.
